Company:
New Mexico Tea Company opened on November 1, 2006, at the corner of Mountain Road and Twelfth Street in Albuquerque, between historic Old Town and the city's arts district. Founder David Edwards was 25 years old and financed the entire thing on credit card debt. The first day, one customer came in. The second day, nobody did. They kept going anyway.
Today the shop carries over 400 varieties of loose-leaf tea and tisane, spanning white, green, oolong, black, pu-erh, and yellow teas alongside herbal, fruit, and botanical blends. Some are sourced from trusted importers, some blended in-house, and some brought back directly from origin.
From the beginning, one principle has guided how we run this place: you have the right to drink tea any way you like. No tradition is required. If you want milk in your green tea or sugar in your oolong, that is your business. We are here to help you find what you actually enjoy, not to tell you how to enjoy it.
If you need assistance or have any questions, our friendly team is ready to help on our customer service page. Let's create a more delightful world together, one cup of tea at a time.
Founders
David EdwardsDavid has traveled to China, Japan, and Sri Lanka to visit growers and processing facilities firsthand, not just to buy tea but to understand how it is made. Seeing how a tea is processed, from the fields in Assam to a pan-fired green tea in China, changes the way you talk about it. That knowledge shows up in the products on the shelf and in the way the staff describes them.
Dianne EdwardsIn the early days of New Mexico Tea Company, Dianne, a devoted tea aficionado, played a vital role as a consultant, sales associate, and occasional tea blender. Her true magic, however, lay in her exceptional eye for the exquisite. Even though she is now retired, her creative influence can still be felt throughout our charming store.
Manager
Shawn manages the shop and knows the catalog better than anyone. If you come in unsure of what you want, she is the person to talk to. She has been with NM Tea Co long enough to have strong opinions about what pairs well with a cold morning, what to reach for after dinner, and which teas are genuinely underrated. The atmosphere in the store reflects her attention to it.
Staff
We are lucky to have the team we have. The people working at NM Tea Co. weather behind the counter, shipping orders, or keeping the website running, are genuinely knowledgeable about tea and genuinely happy to share that knowledge with you. They are the reason customers come back.
Our floor staff will help you find something you love, whether you walk in knowing exactly what you want or have no idea where to start. They ask good questions and give honest answers, and they have introduced a lot of people to teas they now consider staples.
The shipping team keeps everything running behind the scenes, blending our house teas, packing orders, and making sure what arrives at your door is exactly what it should be.
We are proud of the people who work here. They make this place what it is.
3d Panorama Walk Through
This is very old, we now occupy the whole building, but it's fun to revisit the past, and see how much we did in such a small space!
