A Nuwati Herbals blend carrying caffeine from three sources: guarana seed, yerba mate leaf and green tea. Guarana seed carries roughly twice the caffeine of a coffee bean by weight,
The rest is mostly roots, eleuthero, licorice and ginger among them, and the roots define the flavor: it brews earthy and rooty, not bright, with a little stevia added for sweetness.
Guarana is Paullinia cupana, an Amazon vine whose seed the Guaraní people have used for centuries. The seed is around four to six percent caffeine by weight against roughly one to two percent for a coffee bean, and the whole seed releases it slowly because it is bound up in the seed's tannins.
Yerba mate is a holly, Ilex paraguariensis, and traditionally it is drunk from a shared gourd through a metal straw called a bombilla, refilled and passed around, never brewed by the cup.
Another of the Nuwati Herbals blends we carry, with The Healer Tea.
Bring filtered or spring water to 212°F. Add 1 tsp of tea leaves to an 8oz cup. Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and let steep 7 minutes.
