Extra Info:

Lapsang Souchong is considered one of the oldest black teas in the world, and its unique smoky flavor results from an ancient tea-drying process. During the Qing Dynasty in China, tea leaves were traditionally dried over pinewood fires to speed up the drying process and meet the high demand for tea. This method imparted the distinctive smoky aroma and flavor that Lapsang Souchong is now famous for. The technique continues to be used today, preserving the tea's historic charm and rich character.

Brewing Instructions:

Bring filtered or spring water to 212°F. Add 1 tsp of tea leaves to an 8oz cup. Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and let steep 4 minutes.

First impressions of a smoky-flavored tea with the bergamot of Earl Grey borne out in spades with this fine tea. Takes me back to hanging out in the yurt on the steppes with its smoke, but livens it up with the citrus accent. No longer inclined to put yak butter in my tea against the cold, I do frequently add milk with no ill effects. Highly recommend.

I am Obsessed with this tea. For the whole week after I ran out of my first order, I actually dreamt about it every night. It's rich and smooth, pretty strong, but is great with or without cream/milk. My husband even enjoyed it while dealing with a sinus infection, despite usually disliking tea. While the vacuum-sealed packaging initially results in the smoke scent starting out extremely pungent, it fades away with each use and is totally worth enduring through to the second and third cups.

This is my favorite tea right now. The primary flavor is Earl Gray, with just enough smokiness to give it the right amount of complexity and richness. It's great with milk and sugar or black. It's hard to find smoked Earl Gray in the US and I'm so glad to have found such an excellent blend of this type of tea.

Smoky Earl Grey was first developed in England (mid-20th century?) and is a challenge to find in the States. NM Tea does it brilliantly. Thanks, David!

This is a great twist for Lapsang fans-it's much more Earl Grey/Bergamot than Lapsang smokiness, but just enough that you know you're drinking a Lapsang. If you're like me and a Lapsang nut, definitely give this a whirl. I am ambivalent about Earl Grey otherwise but I really dig this one.

I've been a long time drinker (40+ years) of Lapsang Souchong and Earl Grey teas. It was frequently a struggle to decide which to make. Now, I can have the best of both worlds. A friend of mine gave me a tin for my birthday a few months ago, and I love it. It is now hands down my favorite tea. My only word of caution is not to let it steep more than the commended 5 minutes, as it will tend to get bitter. Many teas are fairly forgiving on the timing, but this one is a bit fussy if you want the best flavor. No big deal.

I've been a Earl Grey snob well over 15 year and I love to change it up, but I always stay in the Grey. IMO This Smokey EG has a Excellent base with a Beautifully Smokey Strength that wraps the pallet and tantalizes the nose. Thank you NMTC for conjuring up this wonderful experience and I definitely will be ordering more.

I've been looking for a nice smokey tea. This was one was very well balanced with just the right amount of smokiness.

I tried an ounce on whim -having never tried a smoked tea. I have to say I'm not a fan. I love earl grey and I love aged teas -but the smokiness in this tea was overpowering and not at all what I wanted in a tea. Thanks, David, for "gifting" your customers an ounce each month. It allows me to try new teas --some of which are now favorites!
