Star anise is the dried fruit of a small evergreen tree native to southern China and shaped like an eight-pointed star. Star anise is one of the five spices used in Chinese Five Spice blends. It made its appearance in Europe in the late sixteenth century where it gained a brief popularity as an addition to teas, fruit conserves and as an aromatic in French anisette liqueurs.
Bring filtered or spring water to 212°F. Add 1 tsp of tea leaves to an 8oz cup. Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and let steep 44323 minutes.
