Neko No Ateji - Utagawa Kuniyoshi was one of the leading ukiyo-e artists in the Edo period. Famously known as a cat lover, Utagawa was innovative in his designs that incorporated a cat's natural movements and expressions learned from closely observing his own many cats. This design is one of a series of prints where cats in various poses form the names of fish, in this case, fugu (puffer fish) and tako (octopus). The tenugui uses a double gauze, weaving technique with a staggered sewing pattern that results in a high absorbency and high quality texture. Perfect for using in the bath, wiping perspiration from your face, as a napkin, or as a kitchen towel.
