A robust blend of tart lemon with the sweetness of green tea makes this tea excellent iced or hot. The robust flavor of the tea is produced from the rolling of the leaves which breaks down the leaves cells, bring the flavor to the surface. Combine this with the high acidity of the lemon makes this tea great for recharging your batteries in the afternoon or to start one's engine in the morning.

Extra Info:

Legend has it that the name Gunpowder was given by a young English clerk who thought the tiny rolled green balls looked like gunpowder. The tea leaves are specially selected for quality, size and style. They are rolled into very small tight nuggets. Gunpowder tea keeps a lot longer than other green teas and is favored because of this characteristic. Chinese exporters recommend gunpowder for iced tea flavored with lemon and sugar.

Brewing Instructions:

Bring filtered or spring water to 180°F. Add 1 tsp of tea leaves to an 8oz cup. Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and let steep 3 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • Gunpowder green tea, lemon peel, calendula petals, and natural lemon flavor.

Reviews:

Purchased with iced tea in mind, but the Lemon Gunpowder does well as a hot tea too. Definitely a bold green. Zesty lemon indeed. My favorite NM tea. As of now.

After sampling a wide variety of the NMTC greens, this very quickly became my favorite. As stated above, it’s forgiving if you let it brew too long, but perfect when brewed as directed. The lemon and tea complement each other (without over- or under-powering the other) and provide a pleasant hot or cold experience through morning and afternoon. Highly recommend.

My new favorite (previously Moroccan Mint, which I still love but...), I have a cup every morning, the bold lemon flavor helps wake me up but is not overwhelming or artificial. The gunpowder is strong enough to hold its own through the zing. I find it (gunpowder in general) easier/more forgiving than most green teas to brew. If you have any affinity for green teas, give this a shot.

This is not a shy tea. It is flavourful and pungent, in a very good way. Cold, it's exciting and tingly on the tongue. Hot, it's soothing and a sure fire hit for the cold and flu season as it has all of the medicinal properties you could ask for with none of the medicinal flavours you'd associate with the usual cold/flu tea remedies. It's a revelation, surely.
