Our best-selling herbal (no caffeine) blend. Blood orange and vanilla flavors combine wonderfully with rooibos, because rooibos brews mellow, without the bitterness a regular tea base might bring. The citrus comes through bright, the vanilla creamy, and the hibiscus underneath holds a tart edge.
Because rooibos does not have any tannins in it, it can make a great, strong iced tea. While Rooibos in general is great with milk, this blend has hibiscus which can curdle milk, so experiment first.
Rooibos is Aspalathus linearis, a legume from the Cederberg mountains north of Cape Town, and it grows commercially nowhere else in the world. The needle-shaped leaves are green when picked. Oxidation after harvest gives the red color and brings out a honey-like character, which is where the sweetness people taste in rooibos comes from; it is the same process that turns green tea into black.
Bring filtered or spring water to 212°F. Add 1 tsp of tea leaves to an 8oz cup. Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and let steep 5 minutes.
